Have A Go Sailing!!
On Wednesday 1st of May, my class and I was invited to sail at Okahu Bay. It has been my second year sailing and I have enjoyed it so much. This was an amazing opportunity for those who haven't sailed before and for us because we had been on our chromebooks the day before and we all needed a day out.
When we went on the water I was really scared and agitated. But a few minutes later I felt alright. We had 2 hours of sailing. During those 2 hours my partner and I learnt how to turn around and how to switch directions from left to right and right to left. I was having fun until our boat started to lean into the water and that's when I felt like I was going to die. Splash, and my partner and I were both in the water. When I was in the water I wasn't scared because I had my life jacket on and I felt protected.
When our 2 hours were done we went back to the shore and had a healthy lunch. After having a delicious lunch, our coaches Steve, JR and Justin told us how to capsize. It was time to go out and capsize our boats. First my partner and I went to a deep area of the ocean to capsize. I had to stand up and walk to the front of the boat and tilt the boat forward. Once our boat had tipped over we had to go to the back of the boat and pull down the center board so that it could pull the boat back up. Now that the boat was back up my partner had to get back on the boat and take out all the water before I got in.
It was time to go back to school. But first we received certificate from our impressive coaches, Steve, Jr and Justin. Our day was over but at least I cherished the best moments of my life.
Many thanks to the Lion Foundations, Rotary, Volvo and Zhik for sponsoring the day.
